Well, it looks like I most likely won't be going home for Thanksgiving. Fares right now are $295, and although I've gotten two emails from Orbitz saying they've found a lower fare, both of those "lower" fares have been $296. What's wrong with this picture? I can't spend that much on a plane ticket right now, and since I need to request vacation for that very soon, I just can't commit. After all, I really don't want to spend an entire week moping around the house all by myself.

Last week I was extremely tired. I still am somewhat today, but hopefully another night going to bed early (hah! Like that'll happen!) and sleeping in tomorrow morning will make this coming week better. I also need to do some cleaning around here, laundry, and make chicken divan for a co-worker who had minor surgery last week. I'm also trying to figure out what pattern(s) I want to use to make baby blankets for several co-workers - 1 first granddaughter (75% chance it's a girl), 1 first baby girl (I think), and 1 second baby son. None of them are obligatory by any means, but I'd like to. There's also another person who's having a baby, but I don't know her.

Grouch was (is) his usual naughty self. While Lionel's sleeping quietly in his carrier in the living room, Groucho feels the need to create his own space for a nap. Note to Groucho: They're called bookshelves, not catshelves, and the books were there first! He also managed to create quite a mess in the bedroom last night when he got down from on top of the bedroom door. Somehow he managed to get all the dirt out of some cuttings, and the cuttings all on the floor without getting the saucer they were in on the floor. He also evidently got dirt all over himself, as evidenced by the state of the bathroom when I let him out after cleaning up.

Tutoring has been going well. I'm sort of half-tempted to ask for Algebra II to be removed from my list of subjects because of a few questions that I've had lately that I'm not completely comfortable with answering. How many of you covered conic sections the first week of school in Algebra II? I can't recall for sure, but I don't think we did those until Advanced Math or Geometry. I haven't asked for it to be taken off yet, though, for several reasons - I'm afraid I might not brush up if I didn't have to, a very large percentage of the sessions I've gotten have been Algebra II (and I don't want to not have any sessions), and I sort of feel that I'd be giving up. Plus, most of the questions are ones that I can answer. *sigh* I don't know.

Bell South is offering "DSL Lite" for $24.95/month. They're also evidently offering a free MP3 player Right now I'm not paying anything for Internet access, but it's dial-up and burps a little when my mom tries to call me if I'm online. Does anybody have any input for me about switching to DSL?

Once you switch to DSL, you'll never go back. Also, if your DSL account comes with an email account, you'll (eventually) be using the software that I worked on!

It does, and 10MB web space - maybe I'll actually make that webpage I've been meaning to do. It's DSL Lite, which is 256k instead of whatever the more expensive ones are. I know that'll still be an improvement on my 28.8 dial-up, but the question is - will it be $25/month worth of improvement?

Oh, what with the burping if you get another call, is it call-waiting? If so, have you tried turning it off (there's a modem setting to do that)?

As for whether it's worth the extra $25/month, it really depends on how much you use the 'net and download/upload large files. I can't imagine using 28.8K dialup anymore, but I'm a pretty heavy user...

That doesn't look like a comfortable sleeping position. Then again, it seems that cats define "comfortable" as "anywhere I'll mostly fit."

Uh huh. He didn't fit at all until he made room for himself. I'm counting myself lucky that the books he decided to remove from the shelf were only phone books and not anything that I'm particularly concerned about keeping in good condition.

I would keep Algebra II. You're not penalized at all for telling the student that a certain problem is out of your realm and referring them to another tutor. I think it's best to have as many subjects as possible.

I went up to Calculus in school and don't even remember what a conic section is, LOL.

Are you checking Travelocity? We're spending $727 for the three of us to go to Denver (from Indianapolis) roundtrip for Thanksgiving. We found that it's cheapest to leave on a Tuesday and come back on Saturday for that holiday.

True. I guess I just need to come up with some good ways to say, "Sorry, I can't help you." I hate to do so partiularly when a student has written /drawn out a problem on the board in detail and it took several minutes!

I've been checking a couple of websites - looks like the prices just keep going up. :( I guess I'll have to buy a ticket eventually, especially before they go up too much more. I'm planning to fly in on T-day and leave the following week. That's when I can get vacation.
